The Unmasking
Let light shine upon that face once more.
Too long it’s hung behind those curtains, undrawn.
Unveil the glorious image of the Lord,
Which now lies hidden. For as you step indoors
Your mouth retreats beneath the cloth you don
And light shines dim upon that face once more.
But dimly shining, still it glows. Before
You forget what you reflect, you must press on,
And unveil the glorious image of the Lord
As through a dark glass. See how you are formed
By the Spirit’s subtlety, like dawn,
Which shines new light upon that face once more.
Take heart! These coverings are what adorns
Your hidden glory, pointing still beyond
When God unveils the image of the Lord.
Foggy now you see. But look towards
The unseen things, when veils will be far gone
And light will pour upon that face—and more,
Unveiled, you’ll see the image of the Lord.
