Look Up
I call you
like a bird at twilight
who sings and sings,
desperate for a reply before
night
twists its worlds and stars
and webs and briars
into Unknown.
I see you,
but not now,
like a celestial pilgrim
who followed the way
of the blue green auroras
until they curved
and vanished.
I behold you,
but not near.
There was a draft in heaven’s cathedral
when a star came forth from Jacob.
The people living in darkness
have seen a great light.
Were they foolish or were they faithful
who looked for light in darkness?
Expecting
that through the massive void of space
a shining star would find them.
