A Prayer for Endurance

We will boast in your goodness, O LORD, all our days,

for there is no end to your tender mercies.

When we live as slaves to our past,

You see us; our sufferings are not hidden from you.

Heal us with your attentive presence, O LORD,

weave the frayed ends into a radiant tapestry.

Take what was intended to hurt us 

and make it a benefit for us and even our neighbours.

Release us, LORD, from the prisons of our own making,

from our failed attempts to give ourselves weight.

Tether us to your glory,

O you, lifter of heads and remover of shame.

Crumble the walls we’ve built between each other

and teach us to see face to face.

In you our boundaries fall in pleasant places;

surely you instruct us with gentleness and kindness.

We will praise your name forever,

and we will tell of your marvelous deeds,

For you alone can deliver us;

Great is your love for your people, O LORD.
